How to undo what a Jira automation rule changed

Updated 4 October 2026

Stop the damage first

Disable the rule in Project settings → Automation (or global automation). The audit log of the rule shows which work items it touched.

See what it changed

The rule’s audit log lists work items but not the old values. Each work item’s history shows them, attributed to Automation for Jira.

Roll it back

Write a second rule to put values back only works when every work item had the same old value. Safety Net for Jira records the old value of every field on every work item and groups the rule’s run into one change set you can undo in one go — including status, sprint and links.

Safety Net for Jira adds the missing undo, and it’s coming soon to the Atlassian Marketplace: Coming soon — get notified.
