How to undo a bulk change in Jira

Updated 4 October 2026

Jira’s bulk change is powerful and has no undo. If a bulk edit hit the wrong work items, you have three ways back.

1. Reverse it by hand

Use the work item history (Activity → History) to see the old values, then bulk edit again with the original value. This only works when every work item had the same old value.

2. Use JQL to find what changed

For some fields JQL can find changes: status CHANGED BY currentUser() DURING (startOfDay(), now()) or assignee CHANGED FROM "Ann" AFTER -1h. Most custom fields, labels and sprints can’t be searched this way.

3. Use an undo tool

Safety Net for Jira groups the bulk edit into one change set, previews every old value per work item — including labels, sprints, custom fields and rich text — and restores them in one click, leaving any fixes people made afterwards alone.

Safety Net for Jira adds the missing undo, and it’s coming soon to the Atlassian Marketplace: Coming soon — get notified.
